Mountainfieldx was founded in Kitale to serve organisations that operate in complex, high-stakes environments — and need advisors who understand those environments from the inside.
Mountainfieldx is a strategy and transformation consulting firm headquartered in Kitale, Kenya. We work with senior leadership teams in the private sector, civil society, and county government to address the structural challenges that limit organisational performance. Our four practice areas — Strategy, Operations, Transformation, and Advisory — are designed to address different stages of an organisation's growth or change journey. We are not generalists who claim to do everything; each engagement is led by a consultant with direct expertise in the specific domain, and we decline work that falls outside our genuine competence. Since our founding in 2018, we have completed more than 60 engagements across Kenya, working with organisations ranging from 15-person agribusinesses in Trans-Nzoia County to county government agencies with multi-billion shilling budgets. We bring the same analytical discipline to every assignment regardless of the client's size or sector — the rigour does not scale down because the client does.
Our process is deliberately front-loaded on understanding before we recommend anything. The first phase of every engagement is diagnostic — we listen, observe, and gather data before forming views. Clients sometimes find this slower than they expect; it is the reason our recommendations land differently from those produced after a two-day workshop and a slide template. We work as a small team — never more than three consultants on a single client at any time — because we believe that senior attention at every stage of an engagement produces better outcomes than large teams who dilute accountability. All project leads at Mountainfieldx have worked in operating roles before consulting — not only in advisory positions — which means our recommendations account for what implementation actually feels like from the inside. We serve clients primarily in Kenya's North Rift and Western regions, with a growing practice in Nairobi. We do not currently have capacity for international assignments outside East Africa, and we are transparent about that boundary. If your organisation is based in a market we cannot serve well, we will say so and, where possible, refer you to a firm that can.
We form recommendations after evidence collection, not before it. Clients bring their own hypotheses; our job is to test those hypotheses rigorously and tell the truth about what the data shows, even when that is uncomfortable.
Every Mountainfieldx engagement is led by a senior consultant from day one to day last. We do not win work with partners and deliver it with analysts — the person you meet in the first conversation is the person doing the work.
Our measure of success is not client dependency — it is whether the client's internal team can sustain the changes we helped design. We build documentation, train internal champions, and structure our disengagement from week one.
